Working as an employee for Mumbai’s BEST Bus Service, A K Jaffer dreamt a dream, that of making his son a cricketer. When the elder son couldn’t make it because of financial constraints, it was the younger son who filled colours to his father’s dream. In his school days, Wasim made 58 runs against Shardashram school, a school from which master blaster Sachin Tendulkar belongs. Impressed by Wasim’s performance, Coach Ramakant Achrekar gave Wasim a chance to come and take admission in his school. But, having studied in Urdu medium throughout his life, this didn’t work for Wasim. The batsman made his appearance felt in his second match of first-class cricket where he made three centuries and gave his career a brilliant start. Wasim’s status in the team has that of being an in and out. And, after Gautam Gambhir’s entry, Jaffer’s place is quite debatable. However, the player who helped Mumbai win its 38th Ranji Trophy can prove to be very crucial for the Challengers.
