Name: Adam Gilchrist
Birth: November 14, 1971, Bellingen, New South Wales
IPL Team: Deccan Chargers
Country: Australia
Adam Gilchrist, nicknamed Gilly, is an aggressive left-handed batsman and record-breaking wicket-keeper, who re-defined the role for the Australian national team. He is considered to be one of the best wicket-keeper-batsmen in the history of the game.
This wicket-keeper cum batsman has multiple angles to his personality which doesn’t just end on the field itself. Apart from a cricketer, he is a thinker and a commentator. Gilchrist has been associated with many Non-Governmental Organisations and has also taken upon himself the education fee for a poor child called Mangesh in Mumbai.
Ricky Ponting mentioned in his diary that ‘Gilly’ often read Karl Marx on the tours. Gilchrist bid his career goodbye when his career was at its peak. One slip of a catch, and Gilchrist felt that he doesn’t have eyes sharp enough to continue to be a wicket-keeper and so, he retired. He left international cricket but will be seen leading the Deccan Chargers in IPL’s second season.
